The Face Behind the Crates

We’ve all got one – a man who’s impossible to shop for.

The Dad who has everything. The husband who buys whatever he wants before you get the chance. The mate who is impossible to buy for. The bloke who somehow has received one too many hardware and camping gear vouchers.

Yep. We’ve all got (at least) one in our life!

I’m Bonnie, and I love Crate Day because I want giving gifts to men to actually be fun.

Every minute of every day, someone is trying to come up with a gift for a man who doesn't need another pair of socks, another six-pack or another gift card.

And honestly? I was over it too.

I love any occasion that calls for a gift - birthdays, Christmas, Father's Day, promotions, new jobs, moving house or simply those moments when you want to say “Hey mate, you're a legend.”

But I was frustrated that gifting the men in my life seemed to always come down to the same old options.

Enter Crate Day.

We pack quality, fun and genuinely useful gifts into timber crates, then seal them shut with a nail gun.

And because opening a normal gift is far too easy, we give you a mini pry bar and make the recipient work for it.

Sometimes there's a little strategy involved. Sometimes there's a lot of swearing. And occasionally there’s some very enthusiastic cheering from the person who gave the gift.

That's the fun of Crate Day.

One of the things I'm most proud of about Crate Day is that we're not just putting together gifts - we're supporting other Australian businesses along the way.

Wherever we can, we source products from Australian makers, producers and small businesses.

That means the jerky, snacks, sauces, grooming products, treats and other goodies that go into our crates aren't just random fillers. They're carefully chosen because they're great products that we think Dad, your husband, your mate or your colleague will actually enjoy.

We love discovering clever Australian brands and giving them another place to shine.

So when you buy a Crate Day gift, you're helping support more than one Aussie business. I still get a thrill every time someone places an order and I LOVE packing crates. 

And that's something we think is worth celebrating.

The Crates Have a Story Too

And then there's the crate itself.

Our timber crates are made right here in Australia through a local correctional facility program.

The program provides inmates with the opportunity to learn practical, workplace skills while they're serving their sentence, with the goal of helping them build skills and confidence that can support their transition back into the community and workforce.

So while you're buying a gift that's designed to make someone smile, the crate itself is helping create an opportunity for someone else.

We love that.

It's a pretty good example of what happens when you think a little differently.

At the end of the day, Crate Day is about making gifting better.
